Congratulations Titus Ave. Shoe Repair for being the Irondequoit Chamber's Featured Business for February! Atilla Dilek, of Irondequoit, purchased Titus Ave. Shoe Repair in 1997 after the business was opened in 1950. Dilek, self employed, offers shoe repair services along with repairing purses, zippers, luggage, briefcases, sports bags, sports equipment, and more. Titus Ave. Shoe Repair also sells accessories such as purses, belts, wallets, laces and other shoe products.
Dilek came to Rochester from Turkey in 1995 joining several family members already living here. In Turkey, Dilek had a childhood friend whose father was a shoemaker. That is where he learned his craft.
"Since I have the skill, I like to do difficult or challenging jobs", Dilek told us. He is currently working on restoring an antique leather doctor's satchel.
Customers have come from as far as Buffalo and Binghamton to see Dilek and sometimes he even receives projects from out of state. He has been known to take projects on tight deadlines noting that people have helped him and if he can help others he will.
"I try to satisfy my customers", Dilek said. "That's the number one reason I am here, to serve the community and Monroe County. It gives me satisfaction to have customers leave happy with my work".
When we asked Dilek about his vision for the future he said he would like to grow and take on more orthopedic jobs.
Dilek has supported IPD and the St. Paul Blvd. Fire Dept., is a member of the Turkish Society, and supports local sports organizations. Dilek also plays soccer and was a soccer referee for about 15 years.
