Irondequoit Chamber of Commerce recognizes Keenan’s as October 2015 featured business

Keenan's Restaurant has been an Irondequoit staple for 29 years, going back to the days when the restaurant was located near the corner of Hudson and Titus avenues. Today, it is no longer “just your grandfather's Keenan's.”

In 2012, Owner Jim Romano bought out his partners and in the last few years has refreshed the menu and, notably, the bar. Keenan's is now widely known among local craft beer enthusiasts for their 12 draft taps all featuring craft beers. 'Tap Takeover' events take place every 6 to 8 weeks when one craft brewery is featured on all of the bar's taps. The day long events also feature special menu items made from the beers, incorporating into appetizers, main courses, and even desserts.

“We wanted to have the restaurant offer a more diverse experience to appeal to all age groups,” says Romano of the craft beer model, which has been a huge success for Keenan's. Romano has been with Keenan's since the beginning. The restaurant has been at its current Georgetown Plaza location for 19 years.

Keenen's is still also known for its casual, family-friendly dining atmosphere. The menu offers something for everyone: unique starters, burgers and sandwiches, Italian dishes, Reef & Beef choices, fresh salads, and comfort food favorites. Romano says he frequently hears their signature dish, Chicken French, called “the best in town.”

Keenan's can host 120 people in their main dining room, plus two private rooms are available for parties, and catering is available. Keenan's is also the meeting spot for local organizations Rotary and Kiwanis, and is popular with retiree lunch groups. The Irondequoit Chamber board has also met at Keenan's.

When Romano and his team are not hosting great food and atmosphere at Keenan's, they bring it to Bishop Kearney High School. For the past 12 years, Romano and three other staff members have been running the BK cafeteria, preparing and serving lunch to the students. “The kids are great, and we treat them like customers,” says Romano, “—we know 90% of them by name!”

Keenan's, an Irondequoit Chamber of Commerce member, is located at 1010 East Ridge Road, and is open Monday through Thursday 11am to 10pm, Friday and Saturday 11am to 11pm, and Sunday 12pm to 8pm. For more information, call (585) 266-2691, visit keenansrestaurant.com, or follow them on Facebook.
