Sensei Mark Shavron is a certified Isshinryu 5th Degree Black Belt Chief Instructor, trained in Okinawa Isshinryu Karate, Kobu-do weaponry, and Filipino stick fighting – and for the past seven years he has spent his time providing martial arts training at Irondequoit Martial Arts on East Ridge Road, the March 2015 Irondequoit Chamber of Commerce Featured Business.
Irondequoit Martial Arts offers adult and children's programs to help develop self-defense techniques, physical fitness and flexibility, concentration and mental focus, while emphasizing discipline and respect, relieving stress, and building self-esteem and confidence. “I have just under 100 students,” says Sensei Shavron. “The age range is 3 years old up to what we call the 'executive division' – that would be the grandparent age group!”
Classes at Irondequoit Martial Arts teach practical self-defense as well as offer students the opportunity to get in top condition mentally and physically.
Sensei Shavron has 20 years of experience teaching martial arts and is happy to have the freedom of bringing his own brand of training to the Irondequoit community. He is the school owner/manager, director of youth programs, co-director of adult programs, and has trained and competed in Japan, as have other certified instructors at Irondequoit Martial Arts.
Martial arts is a big part of this Irondequoit family – Sensei Shavron met wife Corrie when she was a karate student, and their son has already advanced to greenbelt. Their youngest, a daughter, is next up for training.
Irondequoit Martial Arts is located at 1298 East Ridge Road, in Rubino's Plaza. Find them at irondequoitmartialarts.com, or call 585-338-1720.
The Featured Business of the Month is an Irondequoit Chamber of Commerce program that highlights local businesses that contribute to our community.
