Congratulations to Battatini's Family Style Catering for being the Irondequoit Chamber of Commerce's Featured Business of the Month for March! In 2013, owners Sam Battaglia and Dominic Piacentini, both of Irondequoit, began serving fresh, homemade “family style" catering for weddings and special events. The two combined their last names and branded their catering business Battatini's.
“Most of the events we do are happy times," Battaglia said about why he loves what they do. “I like that we can provide good food at a good price for those special times."
Piacentini and Battaglia, both Eastridge High School alumni, worked together at a pizzeria previously owned by Battaglia when they decided to try catering “on the side". Their business continued to grow and they opened their E. Ridge Rd. location and added “Friday Night Dinners". From 4pm-8pm on Fridays, Battatini's serves takeout meals from their delicious menu. The Friday night menu includes pasta dishes like homemade Gnocchi's, seafood dinners and fish fries, and even signature items like the Batta Bing Plate and Sushi Burrito.
“We actually do Sushi Burritos," Battaglia said. “Yes, it may sound weird to get sushi from two Italians, but once they get out there, people love them."
Family isn't just in the business name. Piacentini, who cooked throughout college, is the main chef for the business but they both acknowledge that they receive help from key family members.
“It's all teamwork," Battaglia tells us.
Both Piacentini and Battaglia have other jobs in the surrounding community. Battaglia owns a number of rental properties in Irondequoit and Piacentini is a Vice Principle at the all-boys' academy in the Charlotte area of Rochester. Battatini's continues to support Eastridge High School Lacrosse and other local sports and schools. Both owners were basketball players at Eastridge.
When we asked what was in store for Battatini's future, Battaglia replied, “We just hope to expand, get bigger. But this location (on E. Ridge Road) works out well for us."
