The Irondequoit Chamber of Commerce is pleased to recognize Seabreeze Amusement Park of 4600 Culver Road as the featured business for summer 2017.
Seabreeze Amusement Park has been has been a local favorite for family fun since its founding in August of 1879.
Recognized as the Finger Lakes Region's #1 Summer Family Fun Destination, Seabreeze is a popular family-oriented amusement and waterpark located on the bluffs above Lake Ontario and Irondequoit Bay. Hundreds of thousands of guests from all across Western and Central New York visit each summer.
In 1937, George Long Jr. leased and later bought the park from the railroad company. The Long family originally came to Seabreeze in 1904 as carousel concessionaires. The 5th generation of the Long family and current owners are George's grandchildren, John Norris, Rob Norris, George Norris, and Anne Wells.
They all grew up in the family business, then went off to college to study engineering, finance, business management, marketing, and design. Their education, strong work ethic demonstrated and lived by their parents, and involvement and leadership roles in the amusement industry's trade association helped them to create what Seabreeze is today – a viable, vibrant family destination.
As the country's third oldest amusement park, and featuring America's oldest continually operating roller coaster, the Jack Rabbit, Seabreeze is rich in history, yet thoroughly up to date with the constant addition of new rides, waterslides, shows and other attractions. This season, Seabreeze debuts a new ride: The Time Machine.
Thirty people are employed year-round, with that number swelling to over 800 employees during the summer season. Seabreeze can cater summer picnics on-site to as few as 25 people to over 4,000 guests.
The current owners are members of, and/or on the boards of, the Irondequoit Chamber of Commerce, Rochester Chamber of Commerce, Centerstate CEO (Syracuse chamber), VisitRochester, Finger Lakes Tourism Association, New York Parks & Attractions Association, NYS Hospitality & Tourism Association, Family Owned & Managed Parks Association, and the International Association of Amusement Parks & Attractions.
“The most rewarding thing is bringing people together for a moment in time to laugh, to smile, and to enjoy each other's company," says John Norris. “We hope to keep the tradition alive and thriving, with the 6th generation of our family now taking an active role in the management and operation of Seabreeze."
