Susan Harrington first established her salon Hair Extraordinaire on November 1, 1983. She was 22 years old and had a vision that continues to drive her today. The Irondequoit Chamber of Commerce has recognized Hair Extraordinaire as the August 2013 Featured Business of the Month.
Harrington, a 1978 graduate of West Irondequoit High School, moved Hair Extraordinaire to their present location at 659 Titus Avenue in 1992, where the salon has grown and become a fixture in the Cooper-Titus neighborhood.
Hair Extraordinaire offers precision hair cutting, color, dimensional color, highlights, lowlights, texturizing, a full line of waxing services, manicures, pedicures, gel and acrylic nails.
“We enjoy bridal parties and special occasion hair styling, and even have fun with non-traditional color and cuts. Our guests range from 1 year to 95 years old. We love to get to know our new guests as much as sharing the lives of our guests that made our 30 years so wonderful,” says Harrington.
Continuing education is important to Harrington and her entire staff, noting, “We are eager to learn and share our knowledge with each other, we go to hair shows, and I also bring in global educators right to my salon several times a year.”
Hair Extraordinaire also gives back to the community by supporting reading programs, local sports teams, and holds fund drives for local charities. And, they have a front row seat to Irondequoit’s I-Square construction.
“It's exciting to be right next to the I-Square development,” says Harrington, “we can really watch each step, day-by-day – it will be refreshing to see new businesses join the existing businesses that have been established in Irondequoit for so many years.”
“I have always loved Irondequoit and it gives me a great sense of pride to be recognized for 30 years of passion for my business.”
