May 10, 2017
Each spring, the Irondequoit Chamber of Commerce recognizes three local graduating seniors who have demonstrated aptitude and academic excellence in the study of business. We proudly support our future business leaders and presented these students with scholarship checks at our Annual Student Scholarship Luncheon on May 10, 2017, at the Rochester Yacht Club. Awarding our annual scholarships promotes business careers and the Irondequoit community to our most promising youth. The 2017 scholarship winners are:
Trevor Delly, Eastridge High School. Trevor Delly is known to be a great student as well as an exceptional classmate. He advocates for himself as well as regularly steps up to help students needing a better understanding or a different perspective, making Trevor a valuable asset to the classroom learning environment. He is described as polite, reasonable, grounded, detail-oriented, and self-motivated—all characteristics that embody what it means to be a successful business person. Trevor is a full International Baccalaureate candidate and will begin his college studies this fall at University of Rochester.
Tyler Malley, Bishop Kearney High School. Tyler Malley is a brilliant young man who works hard and is always smiling. He has been a member of National Junior Honor Society (2014-2015) and National Honor Society (2017), works for St. Kateri Parish as a volunteer and web administrator, and serves as a school ambassador for Bishop Kearney. He devotes his time to creating phone apps and websites for content and video creators to livestream on a safe platform. Tyler aspires to pursue a degree in business and computer programming so that he may eventually serve as CEO of his own tech company. Tyler is bound for success and epitomizes Bishop Kearney's motto: "Do All Things Well." Tyler is considering attending either RIT or Roberts Wesleyan.
Matt Brennan, Irondequoit High School. Matt Brennan is a member of the Varsity Baseball and Basketball teams, National Honor Society, Math League, and Honor roll. As a member of DECA, Matt participated in the International Career Development Conference in Nashville and Anaheim, he was in the top 10% in the Virtual Business Sports national online simulation competition his Freshman year, was a Regional and State finalist for Accounting Applications his Junior Year, and as a Senior was a National Finalist for Virtual Business Sports and a State finalist for Franchise Business Plan. Matt also serves as DECA Treasurer, responsible for managing over $30,000. Matt will be attending University of Pittsburgh to major in Accounting in the Fall.
In addition to receiving scholarship funds from the Irondequoit Chamber of Commerce, each student also received certificates of recognition and achievement from the offices of the Monroe County Clerk, the Monroe County Legislature, the New York State Senate, and the New York State Assembly.
