In Andrea Deckert's article “Rochester, Greece continue to lead growth,” she writes that Irondequoit reported the biggest increase in total construction value from 2011 to 2012 among area municipalities.

Three residential construction permits, valued at $549,000, were issued, and 52 non-residential permits were issued with a total value of $40.9 million. Two large commercial projects initiated in 2012 were for the new LA Fitness building, and for the Tops Market project happening in the former Kmart location. Both are located on East Ridge Road.
