Chapel Oaks at St. Ann's Community
The health and safety of our Chamber members and community are our first priority. Under the current guidance of the Monroe County and New York State Departments of Health, we are cancelling this March luncheon event. We will continue to monitor the news and recommendations surrounding COVID-19, caused by the novel coronavirus as it pertains to any of our future events and how it will impact business for our members.
Join us at our luncheon on Tuesday, March 31st as the Irondequoit Chamber of Commerce welcomes author and small business advocate Jane Plitt. Plitt, once a resident of Rochester, became enthralled by the story of Martha Matilda Harper, a female entrepreneur that put the concept of beauty salons on the map. Harper was also a Rochesterian!
“She was the first woman member of the Chamber of Commerce, and they forgot about her,” Plitt told Rochesterfirst.com. “She created modern franchising, and she also invented the reclining shampoo chair we all get to delight in. She was a poor servant from the time she was seven. Finally, 25 years later, she comes to Rochester and is able to create the first beauty salon for women, here. And from there, it was like a Wegmans!”
Plitt's books include: Martha Matilda Harper and the American Dream, Martha's Magical Hair, and Martha the Hairpreneur
Help us celebrate Women's History Month by welcoming her.
